| SURVEY OF THE DECADESShopping in the 1950s
Suppose you were to push a shopping cart down the isle of a 1950s grocery store, or shop for a new dress for yourself or perhaps socks for your husband. How would you pay for your purchases? Cash? Store Credit? Maybe you would write a check, or just say "put it on my account". Would you use coupons? If so, where did you get the coupons? Maybe you would collect the stamps that stores gave out and go home and carefully paste them into a stamp book, to be redeemed later for an expensive purchase like a new black and white TV! I will try to piece together the 1950s shopping experience for you! Stay tuned!
