Tips From Experts
"JUST FOR YOU: All of the experts whose tips I've used
here have glamorized leading models for magazine covers and for
cosmetic and fashion ads. They're tops in their field. Like their
boss, Betsy Eagles of Beauty Bookings, they agree that beauty is an
illusion, one any woman can create if she knows how to use makeup to
make the magic difference."
Provocatively Pouty Mouth: Martin Downey likes to
blend highlighting cream around the lips and over the two little
lines that extend from lips to nostrils. It gives the mouth
I-want-to-be-kissed look, he told me.
Eye Do: Sometimes eye makeup looks too harsh. Arthur
Scott's trick to soften it involves not eye makeup but blusher.
"Extend blusher into the temple area and just a bit above the eye,"
he suggests, "so it will blend with and soften eye makeup."
Mascara Magic: Pressed for time Bruce Clyde Keller
offers a quick trick for applying mascara: "Curl lashes then,
holding the outer corner of the eye with your finger, apply mascara
with a left to right or right to left stroke. When it dries, apply a
second coat of mascara in the regular way, working up from the root
of the lashes to the tip."
Lining Eyes: Brown or black eye liner can look harsh,
but not if you try Mark Sephton's trick. He suggests that after
applying eye liner, you go over the line with a terra cotta shade of
liner. It will soften the harsh look of a black or brown shadow.
Setting Pretty: If you set your hair on hot rollers,
follow Jack Colleo's tip and use end papers. They eliminate the
problem of split ends.
Avocado Conditioner: Hair need conditioning? Your best
bet, suggests Walter Fountaine, is to use an avocado. Puree it in
the blender, then apply it to freshly-shampooed hair. Wrap your hair
with aluminum foil and busy yourself for 30 minutes to an hour, then
