Home Decor Tips From the '70s

- Color to Unify . . . to bring together the seeming clutter of a
variety of cabinets and appliances, match wall colors to cabinets or
colored appliances, or appliances to cabinets, or cabinets,
appliances and wall color. Paint everything to match.
- Color for Window Exposure . . . the kitchen is mostly a daytime
room, so use cool colors. blues. aquas, mint greens, for those on
the warmer south side of the house and warm colors, pinks, yellows,
apricots, for those on the cooler north side.
- Color for Good Seeing . . . if natural light is limited, use
pale, light-reflecting colors.
- Color for Cheer . . . clear yellows, pinks, and melons are
spirit-lifting.
- Color for Size . . . if a kitchen is small, use a pale cool
color.
- Color Tie-In . . . for an open plan, where the kitchen is
plainly visible from the dining or living area, relate the kitchen
with a paler tint of the larger room color.
