| SURVEY OF THE DECADES - CHILDREN & FAMILYRaising Children in the 1990sWhat was it like to have children in the 1990s? Potty Training"When, exactly, a child is ready has become a topic of hot debate as two of the nation's leading experts on child care have gone head to head on the potty training issue. John Rosemond, a family psychologist and syndicated columnist, says that it's insulting to a child's intelligence if he's not potty-trained in his second year. But Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, a pediatrician and author, has taken to the airwaves advising parents to wait until a child is ready to use the toilet - even if it takes until age 3 or 4. Mr. Rosemond takes issue with this advice, especially since Dr. Brazelton is a spokesman for Pampers, which manufactures diapers and disposable training pants big enough for "babies" over 35 pounds - the size of an average 3 or 4-year-old.
