Fashion Born in the 1990s

Juicy Couture Logo
Juicy Couture

The Juicy Couture brand, famous for its Cheeky Slogans, Curvy Velour Hoodies and lots of girly details, was started by  Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy sometime around 1997. Originally aimed at fashion-loving women, the collection has expanded with more rugged styles for men, sweeter ones for girls and posh ones for pampered dogs.

MARNI Marni combines bright colors, bold graphic patterns, elaborate prints, natural and techno textures for quirky, offbeat glamour. Thanks to designer Consuelo Castiglioniís idiosyncratic style, Marni has remained a favorite among critics since its inception in 1994.

Fashions of the 1990s

The 1990s produced fashion models that were bigger than the fashions they were modeling. We were on a first name basis with Linda, Naomi, Christy, Cindy, Claudia, Eva and Kate. But I forget what they were wearing.

Quick tips for the fashion-conscious:

  • Karen Kane Charcoal PantsuitThe latest word in women's fashion this fall is menswear. So if you're planning to suit up, consider a classic pinstripe in gray or blue. Look for longer jackets and tailored trousers (cuffs optional). Tip: try to find something with a bit of Lycra.
  • Lingerie continues to make fashion statements outside the bedroom now that camisoles, bustiers and slip dresses have started to appear more frequently on the street and in the clubs.
  • They may have been the rage several years ago, but it looks like the Y-necklace might soon be relegated to the bottom of the jewelry box. W magazine reports that chokers have emerged as the accessory to the fall couture lines. Forget the velvet bands and dog collar look; look for something dedicated and be sure to keep your chin up.
