2000s FADS AND CULTURE
Societal Notables in the 2000s
Rachael Ray!
"As seen on the Rachael Ray Show!" - Have you seen that
anywhere? Poor Martha Stewart seems to be "out" since the domestic
goddess/CEO spent time in the slammer. Now we just have Oprah and
Rachael Ray to tell us what to buy! But....just who is this
Rachael Ray?
Stupidity
Stupidity and ignorance are in! =(
Reality TV
Reality TV is a phenomenon of the early 2000s that is still with us
(more or less) as of this writing, in May of 2007. Reality TV puts
everyday people in contrived but supposedly unscripted situations, and
then films them for our voyeuristic amusement. Some of the top shows
include:
- Survivor
- (CBS) Reality TV show debuted in May of 2000.
- American Idol
- An amateur hour type singing contest hosted by Ryan Seacrest that
has been running since 2002. Contestants perform live on TV and are
judged by a panel of judges (Paula
Abdul, Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell) and the American public who
cast their votes via telephone.
- The Bachelor
- (ABC) Debut 2002. 25 young ladies vie for the affection of an
eligible bachelor, who picks one to marry.
Other Hit Shows of the 2000s
- 24 -
24 is unique in that we follow the story minute by minute. Viewers
are privy to an entire 24 hour period with no gaps. (Fox)
- Desperate Housewives - (ABC)
- Welcome to The Most Scandalous Street in Suburbia!
- House -
Smart is cool, and nasty is better. Hugh Laurey, a British Bloke
dons an American accent, is mean to everybody, and we can't get
enough! (Fox)
- Lost - (ABC)
- A man awakes in a jungle. He is bruised and bloody, and doesn't
know where he is...
- Ugly Betty -
The only sane an reasonable person is "Ugly" Betty (who really isn't
ugly at all, IMO.)(ABC)
