Wrinkle Free vs. Wrinkle Resistant

HOUSEKEEPING AND CLEANING HOUSE

Ironing and the Prevention Thereof

IRONING HAPPENS!

Yes, Even in today's modern society, Ironing Happens! Before you run screaming, let me assure you that there are measures you can take to prevent ironing! You will not eliminate all ironing, but you will be able to bring the amount of ironing down to a tolerable and manageable level.

In truth, I like to iron, there is something deeply satisfying about making a piece of cloth perfectly smooth, flat and wrinkle free. Add some spray starch to the mix and it gets even better: smooth, flat and wrinkle free and going to stay that way! Call me a control freak, but the thought just gives me the warm fuzzies!

The problem is that I DON'T HAVE THE TIME! So, I have developed some techniques that seriously reduce the amount of ironing I need to do. It's all about setup and timing.

Laundry Room Setup

Philosophy: If an article of clothing doesn't get wrinkled in the first place, there is no need to iron it! It starts in the laundry room!

My laundry room  is long and narrow, so I had limited space to work with and still be able to get to the washer and dryer.

Laundry Room DiagramHere is a diagram of my laundry room as I have it arranged - as you can see, not much room left!

The key element is my mobile clothes rack, and its proximity to the washer and dryer. Actually, it is quite simple! Hang the clothes up right away as soon as they are finished in the dryer! You will be surprised at how many of your clothes will look ready-to-wear once you have perfected this technique! The clothes rack right next to the dryer means that you don't have to schlep the clothes off to the closet right away. You can hang them up right there in the laundry room and then put them away at your leisure.
