MAIN COURSE

BARBECUED FRANKS, American

Ingredients
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 2 tbsp. fat
  • 2 tbap. vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp, lemon juice
  • 1 cup tomato catsup
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. prepared mustard
  • 1/2 cup water salt
  • Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 12 frankfurters
Preparation Instructions

Cook chopped onion, pepper and celery slowly in butter or oleo until tender. Add remaining ingredients and simmer together for 10 to 15 minutes. Piece frankfurters in a shallow pan and pour the barbecue sauce over them. Bake in 350°F oven for 30 minutes, This is extra-special for cook-out picnic.

Variation: This sauce can be poured over hamburger patties or spareribs and be cooked in the same manner as for frankfurters.
