Snail Safari

So it is spring here in California and I have become a frequent visitor at Lowes, spending oodles on pretty spring flowers and all the paraphernalia that goes with them. I got a GREAT deal on 2 half whisky barrels that make beautiful planters for the patio, and carefully potted my colorful assortment of flowers.

I am also a huge fan of the shake and bake flowers, those cylinders of wildflower seeds that promise fields of color with no more effort than salting your food. So, I put seeds in one of my barrels, and have been watering them every day like it says on the package.

Just as promised, little green leaves started to appear after 1 week, much to my delight. After a few days however, the little leaves were disappearing overnight. I went out one night to water and what did I find? Murderous hordes of snails were sliming their way up the sides of my barrels, and munching and crunching their way through my assortment of red, white and blue wildflowers.

So, for the last few nights I have become obsessed with snail stalking, and have gotten over the initial heebie jeebies I got when stepping on them. However, the little suckers seem to be replicating faster than all my marching around the garden in rubber boots can squish. So, I will be heading to Lowes again in search of a better solution to my problem than my current crunch and squish tactic.

More About My Dyson - The Vacuum with the Accent

Just wanted to report that I found the receipt for my Dyson vacuum cleaner that I bought from Costco and I have owned it for over a year now, and it still sucks! Pretty amazing, me thinks, both that I actually found a Vacuum that works and that there seems to be a bit of truth in advertising afterall!

In case anyone is interested in acquiring said wonder, here is a coupon for a dyson vacuum: 10% off any Dyson Vacuum plus free shipping. Use coupon code DYSON10.

Battery Powered Mop!

I finally broke down and bought a Swiffer. I am usually very skeptical of the New Fangled Devices they come up with, I mean... Really! A mop that requires 4 double A batteries seems like an excuse to make money off the gullible, right?

Well, I have to admit the darn thing cleans the floor! It has this really neat sponge thing that you velcro on and then throw out once you've mopped the floor. It actually sucks the dirt in away from the cleaning surface (I know, I didn't believe it either, but I checked..) so you are always mopping with a clean surface. The Swiffer has special Swiffer Cleaner that you use that smells pleasant, and makes things clean. My kitchen floor is cleaner than it has been in a very long time. Overall, positive rating from this Retro Housewife for the Silly Swiffer.

The only pain is that now I have two more things to run out of...The cleaning pads and the special solution. Oh Well.

So that's my 2 cents on that!
