Spanish Creep

Earlier this evening, I took my son to Kohl's to do some last minute back to school shopping. I rarely venture out into actual 3-D stores anymore, so I am not sure this is anything new - but they were running those "attention shoppers" announcements in English and then Spanish.

I found this to be extremely irritating. Not because I don't like Spanish - as languages go it is one of the nicer ones. I think it is the fact that it is yet another reminder that me and my family are being pushed aside to accommodate the apparent heirs to California. I really wonder if those rotten politicians are planning on giving California "back" to Mexico.

Yesterday, my hubby had to call the assessors office to fight the property tax increase they slapped on us when we refinanced (2nd time in 6 years) - and had to listen to the 20 second blah blah in English - and then another 20 seconds of the same thing in Spanish before getting the option menu.

Imagine the time and money we are wasting with this politically correct hogwash. No other country in the world is stupid enough to try and have two languages coexist. The incidents I am talking about are trivial and mere annoyances - but it won't be long until the sand being thrown into the gears of our society start to cause more serious problems. There are already large areas in California where it is difficult to find somebody who speaks English, and it won't be long until they start dropping the bilingual criteria for government positions and hiring Spanish only speakers.

Another thing that really bugs me are the little inserts that my gas and electric companies stick in every bill announcing that they will give low income households a 20% discount. It's not that I mind helping out low-income families, I don't, it's the knowledge that a good many of those people I am helping to subsidize have no right to be here in the first place. (Don't think for one second that the 20% comes out of company profits - those subsidies mean we pay more.)

What amazes me is that people just stand by and let it happen. Nancy Pelosi et al are giving our country away right under our noses and there doesn't seem to be a damn thing we can do about it.


PS: I read a letter to the editor in the local paper two days ago in which a woman was describing a parade in Oxnard - the Fire Department brought their trucks to be in the parade and were waving flags out the window as they drove in the procession. Mexican Flags.

PPS: In case you are inclined to leave an insult in response to this posting like the very brave Anonymous, put a little thought into it and explain why you think I am an idiot and/or disgusting for feeling the way I do.

  1. Why is it that I am not supposed to say that I am unhappy about feeling like a stranger in my own country - the place I have called home for most of my life?

  2. Why can't I object to the fact that half the population converses in a language I don't understand - and that now businesses and public offices are starting to do the same - further compounding my sense of alienation?

  3. Am I supposed to just pay and pay and pay to support people who are here in violation of the laws of this country? Are you telling me that I can't even object? Why is it that you believe I should have no recourse or possibility of remedy for a situation which I believe to be unfair?

  4. Why is it that you think I don't matter?

These California politicians just voted for a bill prohibiting any level of government from requiring that an Employer use the eVerify system. For example, as I understand this, if the local government in, say, Santa Barbara wants to ensure jobs go to legal residents and try to pass a law saying "if you employ people in Santa Barbara, you have to make sure they are here legally" They can't. This bill would prohibit it.

The unemployment rate in California is currently 12.1%.

Related Issue: What is going to happen in the next big earthquake in California if any of the construction done by illegal immigrants is substandard? In 1995 roughly 10,000 people died in a major earthquake that struck Kobe and Osaka, Japan. Investigations concluded that so many buildings collapsed because of corruption in the Japanese construction industry. Since we here in California have both earthquakes and rampant corruption amongst builders and contractors, might we be sitting on a ticking time bomb? The illegal immigrants may or may not be as skilled as their legal counterparts, however, the safety mechanism went out the window when building went under the table.

I wonder whether it takes any skill to build in such a way such that the building won't topple when an earthquake of any substantial magnitude hits. Or is this fully in the hands of the architect? Does anybody know? Please respond it you do.

I Oppose Harvey Milk Day

This is a Bill about to be voted on in California:

SB 572, as amended, Leno. Harvey Milk Day: official designation. Existing law requires the Governor to proclaim certain days each year for specified reasons. Existing law also designates particular days each year as having special significance in public schools and educational institutions and encourages those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises on those dates.

This bill would provide that the Governor proclaim May 22 of each year as Harvey Milk Day, and would designate that date as having special significance in public schools and educational institutions and would encourage those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises on that date.
The sole purpose of this bill seems to be to get access to kids in the public school system for furthering the political goals of the GLBT. Perhaps if there were a Harvey Milk Day, teachers will recommend that students read up on Harvey Milk, for example in this Biography: The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life and Times of Harvey Milk (Stonewall Inn Editions)The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life and Times of Harvey Milk.

Maybe they can even have a guest speaker from NAMBLA.

This is what I think. Read the bill, the book, and then make up your own mind about whether this guy should be singled out and lauded every year in your kids' schools.


Update October 12, 2009: Well, we now officially have a Harvey Milk Day. I wouldn't give a hoot but for the real intent of this bill, which is to get at the kids in public schools so as to have a direct line for propaganda. I don't understand why people aren't up in arms about this. It's a wonder they aren't trying for a Polanski day, then they could just make it a day to honor pedophiles.

S. 1038: AgJOBS Act of 2009

I can't believe this is happening:

"Amends the Social Security Act to exempt blue card aliens from prosecution for social security-related identity or payment false statements if such conduct occurred prior to the granting of blue card status."
false statements = fraud

My senator, Dianne Feinstein, wants to grant illegals immunity from prosecution for committing Social Security fraud, while sneaking through an amnesty. Why do we put up with this? Has your government ever granted you immunity from anything?

I had to pay over $200 in fines because the California DMV took over a month to send me my registration tags and I got pulled over for having old tags. The check for payment of my car registration cleared my bank account 3 weeks prior to me getting pulled over. The tags arrived in the mail the next day, but we were out of town, and by the time we returned, the fix-it ticket for my registration was past due.

So I went to court to fight it. The judge told me I shouldn't be driving with expired registration tags and I got to pay a fine.

I sent in my check on time, they cashed it and sat on the money - I get to pay more.

People who violate Federal Law and enter this country illegally, then commit Social Security fraud, get immunity.

The Trouble With Blanche Fleckenstein

I have been friends with Blanche Fleckenstein since the 6th grade. I think we met on my first day at County Christian school, where I was starting mid-year. I think she noticed me because I arrived on the back of my uncle's motorcycle wearing hand-me-down yellow toughskin floods, my big, poofy, navy down jacket and waffle stompers. My hair was sticking out a good foot from my head from the motorcycle ride - so I guess you can say I was hard to miss.

I was on the look-out for the "other" Catholic my mom had told me went to this school. I hadn't realized that this was going to be an issue until my mom said that - but I was horrified at the thought of being different than the rest of the kids and thus became slightly obsessed with finding the other kid who was like me. Luckily for me, she turned out to be the coolest kid in my class. Plus she had horses. The year was 1977.

Fast forward to 2009. I would like to drop kick Blanche from here to Texas. Yes, we are still friends, and I still think she's the coolest kid in the class - not that we haven't had our ups and downs - but with all her (many, many, many :-P ) faults, life is just better having her as a friend. (Even though she no longer has horses...)

Here's the thing. Blanche started following politics a few years back (total surprise to me) and has developed a habit of forwarding me emails - several a day- which discuss the various topics she is interested in. It is not that I mind this, I am generally interested in the things she sends me, because after all, they will affect me and my family too, and I usually find the time to read and comment on the items she sends. Sometimes because I am interested and have an opinion, sometimes just because I know it is important to her, and she is my friend.

So you think that the one time that I ask her to listen to something that I think is important, she would do it - if not out of interest, well, because I am her friend. Well you would be wrong. I have begged, pleaded, cajoled her to listen to the 4th Turning - all to no avail. I even ripped my copy and put it up for her to download and the twit says "wankity, wankity can't get it to play on my computer" (Her husband is a full-on Techy who could have it blasting over the local PA system in about 5 minutes - if she wanted it.)

"Blanche, you have to listen to this - it's important!" I say,
"These guys are not quacks", I say,
"This is based on research - and if they turn out to be right, we could be in big trouble", I say

"I'll listen to it" she says in that half-annoyed, wishy-washy tone of hers that means it'll happen 5 minutes to never.

And so I am having a real female moment sitting here thinking that if she really cared about me as a friend she would listen to this one blankity blank thing - if not for her benefit, then for mine.

And I am not talking to her until she does. So there.


An if that doesn't work, I am going to start going through my photo albums. You sure acquire a lot of pictures of a person over the years, yes sirree.

These People Want To Approve Your News

Here we go again, people jumping on the bandwagon of political correctness and supporting what amounts to economic terrorism because some guy on Fox News said something they didn't like.

People who support this kind of behavior are little itty bitty fascists waiting to happen. I don't know what the guy said, and I don't care. This is what it said on the Hypocrite Post:

Hmm...so Glenn Beck called Obama a racist and his comments have been deemed "controversial". I personally do no think Obama is a racist, but that doesn't mean Glen Beck can't express his opinion. I realize that the government is not doing this, but the effect can be worse because these people have appointed themselves masters of the airwaves. There is no system of checks and balances in place to stop them.

How can we say we have the right to free speech in this country if speaking freely can cost you your livelyhood? We didn't elect this James Rucker or his organisation, ColorOfChange.org, yet he wants to decide what gets said on TV. I have heard many unfounded accusations of racisim targeted at white men, and nobody said boo. This is not about racism, racism is simply the tool being used to silence an opposing viewpoint.

This is what is evil about the left. They need full control of the information you receive, will try to punish you if you say something they don't like and would jump into your head to control your thoughts if they could. (Instead, they pass "Hate Crime" laws so they can stick you in jail for thinking bad things - note that they can never actually prove it - not really.)

Has everybody forgotten the Soviet Union? The Berlin Wall? What did they need that wall for? You really want to wind up in a system that has to lock its citizens in to make them stay?

I am not saying that Democrats are like the Soviets - we need the Democrats to counter the Republicans, and Democrats have a lot to offer. (Same goes for Republicans) However, left unchecked, they will become the Soviets and when elements of totalitarianism rear their head, they MUST be beaten back.

The reason I bring this up is because these cowardly companies are pulling advertising from Mr. Beck's show: Geico, Healthy Choice, Radio Shack, Roche and Sanofi-Aventis.

Don't join me in Boycotting these companies. I am not going to boycott them because I don't practise economic terrorism and coercion. (If this guy gets to do it, why doesn't the Mafia get to?) Do speak out against people who try to silence views they don't like. If you don't do it right away, your next chance may not be for another 40 years or so.

Seriously folks, Soviet Union = No Fun. None at all.

I have a challenge for you, James Rucker, Founder of ColorOfChange.org. Instead of becoming part of the problem by organizing a witch hunt against this guy, open a dialog with him. A serious, well-intentioned, respectful dialog. What you are doing is not right. Everybody should be able to express an opinion without fear of retribution. You would want the same for yourself, no?

Goin' To A Town Hall Meeting

I am having a beast of a time getting ready to attend my local town-hall meeting! Just when I have my outfit all put together, those town-hall fashonistas find a hot new designer and suddenly my hard sought choices seem very last season.

For example, I had settled on a very tasteful combination of Mao and Vlad, accessorized by Joe, when I find out that everybody is now wearing Swastika! Now where am I going to find Swastika this late in the game? Nordstrom doesn't seem to carry Swastika, and even YOOX, which can usually be counted on to have the avant-gardiest of the avant garde designers seems to be out of stock!Yoox Fashion Designer Directory

Just what is a fashion conscious girl supposed to do? I can't possibly show up wearing last season what with all the cameras recording every detail of every outfit in attendance - a big fashion faux pas and they might ban me at Saks altogether! Then what would I do?
