RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE
BRUNA BÖNOR (Brown Beans), Swedish
These brown beans belong on a Smorgasbord and with Christmas dinner, but they are an every day meal too. These brown beans are a close kin to the American kidney bean.
Wash beans. Drain. Cover with 2 quarts water and soak overnight. When ready to cook them, add salt and cook until tender (2 to 3 hours). Just before serving, add molasses or syrup. Wonderful with pork chops, meat balls or sauteed kidneys.

HAVE A COMMENT, QUESTION OR RECIPE OF YOUR OWN?
I would like to thank Newspaperarchive for putting together such a fabulous service, and placing our Nation's history right at our fingertips. Many of these wonderful recipes are ones I stumbled upon quite by accident while sleuthing through the decades in my quest to assemble the world of the American housewife. RH
