BAKED GOODS

Butterscotch Cookies, American

1946 Butterscotch Cookies

Ingredients
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups brown sugar firmly packed
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup chopped nut meats
Preparation Instructions

Sift the flour once, measure, then resift with the baking powder and salt. Cream the shortening, add vanilla and sugar and cream together until light and fluffy. Add beaten eggs and again beat well. Add dry ingredients and nuts and blend.

Shape into balls about one and one half inches in diameter and chill. Cut in one fourth-inch slices and bake on ungreased cooky sheet in a 375 degree oven for about 12 minutes or until done.
