DESSERT

CHOCOLATE INTRIGUE, American

Ingredients
  • 3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 t. double-acting baking powder
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 t. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 t. soda
  • 1/4 t. peppermint extract (optional)
Preparation Instructions

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

Cream butter, gradually adding sugar. Cream well. Blend in one egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine milk and vanilla.

Add alternately with the dry ingredients, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Blend well after each addition.

Turn two-thirds of batter into a well-greased and lightly floured tube pan. Add to remaining batter the syrup, soda and peppermint. Mix well.

Spoon chocolate batter over white batter. DO NOT MIX. Bake at 350° for 65 to 70 minutes.
