DESSERT

CHRISTMAS COOKIES, American

Ingredients
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 well-beaten eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3 ½ cups sifted cake flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Preparation Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together; beat until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, cream and vanilla; beat well.
  3. Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.
  4. Shape into mound, wrap in waxed paper, chill.
  5. Roll on board lightly "floured" with confectioners' sugar, until dough is about '¼-inch thick.
  6. Dip cutter in confectioners' sugar each time before cutting cookie, then place cookie on lightly greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake in moderate oven, 375° F., for about 8 minutes, or until delicately browned.
