RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

DESSERT

DIO TORTA (walnut cake), Hungarian

Ingredients
  • 4 eggs separated
  • ¾ cups sugar
  • 4 ½ ozs. Ground walnuts
  • 4 tbsp. flour
  • 1 pint whipping cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 ozs. Walnuts
  • 4 tbsp. sugar
Preparation Instructions

Mix eggs yolks with sugar for 20 minutes. Add flour, beaten whites of eggs and ground walnuts. Bake in a greased cake pan in a moderate oven (350°) about 40 minutes. Cool. Cut in half, lengthwise and spread cream between and on top of layers. Whip the pint whipping cream, and combine with the vanilla and remaining 4 ozs. Walnuts and 4 tbsp. sugar.
