RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

MAIN COURSE

GOLUPTZI (Stuffed Cabbage), Russian

Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Chopped onion
  • 1 cup partly boiled rice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Large cabbage leaves

    • Sauce

  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • Milk
  • Bouillon or hot water
  • Tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp. sour cream
Preparation Instructions

Fry 1 lb. good ground beef with chopped onion, add partly boiled rice, salt and pepper. Take large cabbage leaves, wash and remove thick center veins. Cover with cold water for 30 minutes. Pour off water and cover with boiling water, simmer until soft. fill the leaves with the meat mixture, roll and tie with string. Fry in pan on all sides and place in greased casserole.

Sauce

Brown the flour in a skillet, stirring constantly. Cover with milk, bouillon or hot water, still stirring, add tomato sauce and sour cream. Bring to a boil and pour over goliptze. Place in oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes.
