RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

APPETIZER

HERRING ZAKOUSKI, Russian

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. potatoes
  • 1 herring soaked in milk
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 chopped onion
  • ½ lb. ground ham
  • 1 oz. grated cheese
Preparation Instructions

Clean herring. Cook, peel and mash potatoes. Simmer meat and onion in oil. Mix potatoes, meat, herring and ham, and put in a greased casserole. Cover with grated cheese. Place in hot oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Serve hot. Serves 10.
