HERBAL REMEDY- NOTE: THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE!Johanniskraut or St Johns Wort - The Magical Remedy, ORIGIN: GERMANThis summer my kids went to stay at their paternal grandparent's house in Bavaria, Germany. My daughter learned this from her Oma (Grandma). I have known about the medicinal qualities of "Johanniskraut" for awhile, but just recently looked up the translation and found out it is St Johns Wort! Here is how it is used in Germany and some of the things it is used for: THE REMEDYMy German Oma has used St Johns Wort for years to sooth skin conditions; a way to get rid warts or booboos, and something to get rid of wrinkles. She makes her own salve or ointment as a way to fight all these problems. (A salve is a paste or oil made from plants that have special powers in fighting the undesirable small maladies). This one made by Johanniskraut is especially good in healing skin. I have often used it to get rid of horribly chapped lips and itchy bug bites. Simply find the yellow flowers, or grow them yourself as they are quite easy to manage and look pretty. Then when they have fully bloomed, collect a great deal of the flowers. These should be squished a little and put into a jam glass or similar container with some oil and then set in the sun. It will take quite a while and after at least several weeks one will find they have an oily, yellowish brown mixture, though it looks unappealing, it is non-toxic and ready to work its magic. Johanniskraut can also calm the nerves when cooked as tea. NOTESRETRO HOUSEWIFE,
