Many mothers today and fathers for that matter have trouble with their children's behavior. In general, most American children have lost manners and obedience. A friend of mine has a problem with her children and their listening. Every time I see them and she gives them a chore, they quickly agree to do it and then go do something else until they are asked several more times. Punishment usually follows; confiscating the i-pod, taking away the computer power cord, putting a lock on the TV, chasing away friends eager for a play-date, and confining the child to his prison-home.
Hard work, but he will learn won't he? Well, ideally yes, however there are some variables that cannot be accounted for, one being that children, when bored out of their mind usually start with nagging. Whining, nagging, wanking, being generally unpleasant and all that will soon wear on anyone's nerves. Soon this punishment will be more for the parent and not the kid. This means that the original date, two weeks away will be moved to one week and then three days.
So what do we learn from this? We don't need to spend our time taking away each pleasurable thing, instead just catch it early. The first time you tell them, don't just walk away and wait for them to ignore you, instead stand there and make sure they are moving their butts. This might be annoying the first few times, but soon they will learn there's no point in hesitation because you will be ready to see this through. Consistency is important because then you will teach them to be consistent in being well-behaved.

Since this is also the "Kids and Discipline" Page, I have to mention
that her big discipline problem is bedtime. As in she doesn't have one.
I personally think that kids under 5 should be in bed at 8:30. For their health and the sanity of their parents.
I think I will take a poll here...
