RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

SIDE DISH

LANTTULAATIKKO (Rutabaga Casserole), Finnish

Ingredients
  • 3 lbs. diced rutabagas
  • 2 ozs. fine ground bread
  • 1/2 cube butter
  • 2 1/2 pro. syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups milk
  • salt and pepper
Preparation Instructions

Cook rutabaga in slightly salted water until tender; mash. Add butter, milk, bread crumbs; beaten egg, and seasoning; mix well, Place in buttered casserole, decorate top by scoring with a knife; sprinkle bread crumbs on top. Bake in very low oven 2 to 3 hours. Just before serving, dot with butter. (Delicious when served with hen).
