Dear Retro Housewife,

I'm newly married and I get bored and feel lonely after my husband goes for his work. I need tips to keep myself engaged.

Hmmm...there are so many things I could think of, but it really depends on what your situation is. Do you have friends or family that you could get together with? If you are new to your neighborhood, I would start by getting to know it. Find out what resources are close by, meet some of the neighbors, find a church or equivalent if you are religeous and get to know the folks there (churches always have activities and meetings so ask about those too).

You have to look within yourself to find the answer. What do you like to do? Once you have your house in order, either try something new, or develop one of your current interests or talents.

Still can't think of anything? Volunteer! Homeless shelters, schools, environmental or political causes always need a helping hand. Take a book or magazine and head to a Old Folks Home and spend some time reading aloud to some of the residents (make sure they want you to first...) How's that for starters?
