RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE
ORANGE-SAUCED TURKEY, American
Cut up turkey as follows: 2 wings, 2 drumsticks, 2 thighs, 4 pieces breast, 2 pieces back. In a clean bag place flour; add turkey pieces, one at a time, and shake to coat evenly. In a skillet melt ½ cup butter; brown turkey pieces; then place in single layer, skin side up in a large shallow baking pan. Add remaining ½ cup butter, orange rind and juice, sugar, vinegar, salt and nutmeg to butter in skillet. Heat and stir until butter is melted. Pour sauce over turkey; cover pan with foil. Bake in a preheated 350° oven 1½ hours or until turkey is tender. Makes 6 servings. Serve with sauce.

I would like to thank Newspaperarchive for putting together such a fabulous service, and placing our Nation's history right at our fingertips. Many of these wonderful recipes are ones I stumbled upon quite by accident while sleuthing through the decades in my quest to assemble the world of the American housewife. RH
