Peach Ice Cream, American
Gradually stir milk into eggs in double boiler top. Place over hot, not boiling water; cook until mixture just coats spoon. Stir in next 4 ingredients, and cool. Then add cream and peaches, combined with ¼ cup sugar and a few drops of almond flavoring, if desired. Freeze in a 2-qt. crank, freezer until difficult to turn, using 8 parts of crushed ice to 1 part of ice cream salt. Makes about l½ qts.. Three-quarter cup granulated sugar may replace the sugar and corn syrup in this recipe.

I would like to thank Newspaperarchive for putting together such a fabulous service, and placing our Nation's history right at our fingertips. Many of these wonderful recipes are ones I stumbled upon quite by accident while sleuthing through the decades in my quest to assemble the world of the American housewife. RH
