MAIN COURSE

PIROG, Russian

Ingredients

    Dough

  • 1 cube of yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • A little flour
  • 1 pinch of sugar
  • 1 lb. flour
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt to taste
  • Meat Filling

  • 2 lbs ground meat
  • Salt and pepper
  • Chopped cabbage
  • Chopped onion
  • Butter
  • Hard-boiled egg
Preparation Instructions

Dough

Dissolve yeast in warm milk, add a little flour, stir until smooth. stand in warm place for a while. Then add flour, eggs, salt and sugar. Mix thoroughly and stand a warm place. When dough has risen, divide into 2 parts, spread 1 piece evenly on a greased iron sheet and spread filling on top. Cover with second half of dough, seal edges, bake in oven for 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Meat Filling

Fry ground meat in a skillet and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer cabbage and onion in butter until soft. Combine all ingredients.

Variation: To make a meat and rice filling, boil rice, mix with ground meat and fry in fat.
