RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

BAKED GOODS

PUMPKIN BREAD, American

Ingredients
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 t. allspice
  • 3 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 t. cloves
  • 1 c. cooking oil
  • 1 t. baking powder
  • 1 14'/2-oz. can pumpkin
  • 2 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 2/3 c. cold water
  • 1 t. nutmeg
  • 4 eggs
Preparation Instructions

Into a large bowl sift dry ingredients. Make a well in the flour and pour in cooking oil. Add pumpkin and cold water and blend well with beater. Add whole eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Pour batter into 2 well greased and floured loaf pans. Bake 1 hour at 350°.
