RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

BAKED GOODS

RACSOS TESZTA (cookies), Hungarian

Ingredients
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • ¾ cups sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ lb. butter
  • ¼ lb. other shortening
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup apricot preserves
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 ½ ozs. Walnuts, ground
Preparation Instructions

Mix in a bowl and knead until blended. Divide in half. Roll out half and place on cooking sheet. Spread ½ cup apricot preserves over dough. Mix 1/3 cup milk with ½ cup sugar and the walnuts. Spread this mixture over the apricot preserves. From the second half of the dough make strips and criss-cross over the mixture. Brush strips lightly with the egg yolk. Bake in a moderate oven (350°) about 40 minutes.
