ROTKOHL (Red Cabbage), German
Melt lard or other shortening in a frying pan, add minced onions and brown. Add thinly sliced cabbage, cut apples, about 2 cups boiling water, salt, pepper and bay leaves. Let simmer about 1 hour, Add vinegar and sugar and stir well.
