TRAVEL DESTINATIONSandal's Beaches Family Resort Turks Caicos, RATING: EXCELLENTMy 16 year old son and I spent October 1 - 4, 2009 at the Beaches Resort Turks & Caicos. The Turks and Caicos Islands is a British Dependent Territory comprising 40 islands and cays and is located at the southeastern end of the Bahamas chain. It's about 575 miles southeast of Miami (1 1/2 by airplane). It is similar in landscape to the Bahamas - mostly flat with rolling hills - but seems far less busy and crowded than the Bahamas. The beaches and the water surrounding Turks and Caicos are out of this world gorgeous. This is the place you see in pictures with vast stretches of white sandy beaches and turquoise blue green water that stay that color for hundreds of yards off shore. ![]() SUMMARYBeaches Resort is a family resort and a good amount of energy and resources are spent making sure there is plenty for everybody to do, see, eat and drink. If you want a vacation where you can be sure everyone will have a good time, Beaches is the place for you. Beaches Resorts are owned and run by the same family that operate Sandals Resorts. The reason I mention this is because it seems to me that the fact that Beaches and Sandals are family run is reflected in the quality of the resorts themselves. Where a corporation might skimp or cut corners, Sandals and Beaches do not. Also, since the owners call the Caribbean home, they care about preserving the natural beauty of the islands and have gone to great lengths to minimize the environmental impact of each resort; or as our guide put it, "We were green long before it was fashionable to be green." For example, the resorts are designed so that gray water from the rooms is collected, treated and used to water the lush garden settings that you'll find at Beaches. REVIEW
