Little Kids

1. Gardening - Gardening is a great thing for kids to do once they are old enough to know not to eat the dirt, and pretty, poisonous flowers. It is fun, and very educational, too. The best thing to do is to give your child a plot of land of his/her own, and then call it "Sam's Garden" (if your kid's name is Sam, otherwise substitute your child's name for "Sam".)  Kid's Watering Can Garden KitDoing this gives Sam ownership of his garden, and gives him a sense of responsibility and ownership. Help Sam decide what to plant, then assist him according to whatever Sam's age calls for.

Kid's Gardening SetEven if you live in an apartment and don't have a yard, you can create a plot of land flowerpot. Sometimes referred to as "container gardening", you can plant one plant, or sow a small rainforest. Don't try this with kids older than 12, because you might get some unexpected crops growing in and around your house.

Those Last Lazy Days of summer.

In California, we often have some of our most beautiful beach weather in September and October. Our last days of summer are often without our regular dose of morning fog or low lying clouds. For those new mom’s out there, get your self a baby backpack and get out walking on the beach. If you are looking for a new backpack, make sure you get one with a sun shade.

Another handy tool is to clip on a pedometer. 10,000 steps a day is what you should take to maintain your current weight. If you are looking to lose the baby fat, try for 15,000.

Baby powder is a great way to clean sand off of you and your kids before heading home. Sprinkle it on your skin and the sand brushes off easily. If you are already at the beach, take a stroll. But, walk in the soft sand, not the sand near the water. Walking in the soft sand works muscles you didn’t even know you had from your feet, up through your legs into your derriere and your back.

The uneven surface forces you to constantly readjust your balance and gives you a whole body work out. Trudging through the sand gets your heart rate up and if you need a break just keep moving but move toward the water for firmer sand and an easier work out.
