DESSERT

Serbian Apple Pita, Serbo-Croatian

Ingredients
    A.  Dough:
  • ½ lb (1 cup) sweet butter
  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tbsp. sour cream
  • B. Filling:
  • 14 medium sized apples
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg
  • walnuts
  • powdered sugar
  • B. Filling:

  • ½ tsp. nutmeg
  • walnuts
  • powdered sugar
Preparation Instructions

A.  Dough: Blend butter with flour. Add sugar, egg yolks and sour cream. Knead into smooth dough and divide into two parts. ROll out one part and fit into large Pyrex utility dish, about 9x12 inches.

B. Filling: Peel apples and slice thin. Over apples sprinkle sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Roll out other piece of dough and cover apples. Prick in several places to permit the steam to escape. Scatter several ground walnuts on top. At 350° F, bake for about 45 minutes. Sprinkle on top with powdered sugar before serving.
