RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE
SHOPPER'S SPECIAL, American
In the market for a quick supper dish? Here's a hearty, rib-sticking meal that you can prepare in a jiffy. The trick is a package of beef vegetable soup mix combined with noodles, ground beef, tomatoes, and pickle relish. The result is bound to please the family after your long day of Christmas shopping.
This supper dish is quick and easy to concoct; After you've cooked the noodles in boiling salted water, you combine them with the browned ground beef, beef vegetable soup mix, mushrooms, tomatoes, and pickle relish. Then simmer the mixture for 15 minutes. You will find this meal-in-one dish a satisfactory repast in itself needing only a tasty green salad with French dressing, crisp, hot, hard rolls, a dessert and beverage to make a quick shopper's special.
Cook noodles in boiling salted water; drain. In melted fat in skillet cook ground beef until brown. Add beef vegetable soup mix (just as it comes from the package), mushrooms, pickle relish, tomatoes, seasonings and cooked noodles. Simmer, covered, 15 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
