RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

DESSERT

SYNØVES KRYDDERKAKE (synØves Spice Cake), Norwegian

Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp, grated lemon rind
  • 1 tsp. baling powder
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2/3 tsp. cloves
  • 2/3 cup raisins and some dry citron
  • 4 cups flour
Preparation Instructions

Cream shortening, add sugar and eggs, and beat well. Add the dry ingredients, which have been sifted together, alternately with the milk. Fold in raisins, citron and lemon rind. Pour in greased square pan or loaf pan. Bake about 1 hour at 350° degrees.
