RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE
TOSSED SALAD WITH MANDARIN ORANGES, American
In a 2-cup measure, combine green onion, oil, vinegar, sugar, celery seeds, and pepper. Microwave on high 1 to 2 minutes, until boiling, stirring twice. Chill until ready to serve. At mealtime, melt butter for 30 to 45 seconds; add almonds and microwave 3½ to 4½ minutes, stirring constantly. Toss together the chilled dressing, toasted almonds, mandarin oranges and romaine lettuce.

I would like to thank Newspaperarchive for putting together such a fabulous service, and placing our Nation's history right at our fingertips. Many of these wonderful recipes are ones I stumbled upon quite by accident while sleuthing through the decades in my quest to assemble the world of the American housewife. RH
