Making the Perfect Cup of Coffee

To make a perfect cup of coffee to go with your favorite dessert follow these guidelines: Start with fresh beans and fresh cold water. Choose the correct grind for your pot. Measure both the coffee and water accurately. Wash the coffee maker after every pot. Don�t leave the coffee on the warmer for hours.

BAKED GOODS

TURTA DE MIERE (Honey Cake or Cookies), Romanian

Ingredients

2 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
2 tbsp. honey
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Pinch of ground cloves
Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)

Preparation Instructions

Prepare several days in advance. Mix ingredients together well; knead lightly on floured board for a few minutes, adding flour if necessary but trying to keep dough as soft as possible. Put in a bowl and let rest overnight or at least several hours. Roll out small portions at a time, to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter in any shape desired. Bake in well greased pans at 350° or 375°. May be decorated like gingerbread cookies. Makes several dozen.

Variation: Honey Loaf Cake: Use two 3 x 6 inch pans. Add one more egg to above recipe, another tbsp. or two of honey, and 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Pour dough into very well greased and floured pans. Bake 1 hour at 350°. This dough makes excellent drop cookies too.
