Winter Sports In Tahoe

The entire Tahoe area is a winter sports lover's paradise - there are more downhill ski/snowboard areas than I can count, and plenty of terrain for the cross country skier as well.

I myself like to snowshoe around the area with our dogs (they aren't allowed on the slopes).

In the last few years they have come out with so many different types of new snow sports equipment, that there is really something for everyone.

In fact, today I just read about another new item called a "splitboard". It is so new that my spell checker doesn't like it, but that is how everyone else seems to be spelling it! Here is what a splitboard is good for:

A splitboard allows the snowboarder to take the board apart into two ski-shaped pieces and, with the use of climbing skins, ascend the slopes in the same manner as a traditional skier with AT gear or a telemark setup. Once at the top the rider can transform the skis back into snowboard mode for the descent. A snowboarder can use the same boot and bindings setup used on a solid board.
