We fell in love with Lake Tahoe! So, we are now looking to buy a small vacation home there!
Donner lake is a smaller lake near Lake Tahoe, but is also very
beautiful and has some nice trails for hiking, and far fewer houses
around it.

Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is a really special place, and offers something for everybody. It has both a California shore and a Nevada shore, so you can have both the mellow, health fanatic lifestyle on the California side, or slip over to Nevada for some "remember when fun wasn't bad for you" type fun. The scenery is gorgeous, and there is nothing like moonlight on the lake to set the romance mood. Tahoe is an even bigger summer destination and offers a ton of stuff to do, for young and old alike! Whatever you do, if you decide to go for a last-minute week-end, book your trip over the internet and use a travel site that specializes in packages. We flew up from Los Angeles, and booked our entire trip for about $350, including airfare, hotel and a rental car. That's $350 for two people! Without the package discount, our plane tickets would have cost $300 each!
Tahoe is Still Dog Friendly!
Tahoe Lake Cottages - Lets you bring your four legged friends. We stayed here just for that reason, and took the dogs along with us on our cross country ski day. Tahoe has a ton of vacation rentals, for both winter and summer! Here is a vacation rental in Tahoe Donner.
Retro Tahoe
Naughty gangsters, some boys called Frank, Dean, Sam and Jack, a girl named Marilyn and the Lady of the Lake.
The north of the lake, around Kings Beach, has a few relics of the past.
One that I visited is the CalNeva Resort Hotel and Casino.
The CalNeva
sits right at the border of Nevada and California and has seen some
pretty colorful individuals walk through its door.
Nicknamed the "Lady of the Lake", The CalNeva was built in 1926. It has changed ownership several times over the years, and was even partially owned by Frank Sinatra from 1961 to 1963.
