(Retro) North Lake Tahoe - CalNeva Tunnel Tour
What is a tunnel tour? That's what I thought when I saw the sign at the entrance of the CalNeva Casino located on the border of the states of California and Nevada. So I went to find out, and got lucky at the bar (so to speak) when I ran into the gentleman who actually gave the tour.
It was far too late in the evening for a tour as they are regularly scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoons and it was already 9:00 PM on a Sunday night, but Tony, the guide, agreed to give us a private tour (for a small fee).
The
tour started out in the Indian Room, which was where Frank Sinatra liked
to entertain his guests (the tour focuses mostly on the period when
Frank was co-owner), and what an impressive guest list he had! Marylin
Monroe, the Kennedy brothers, Ava Gardner... a regular who's who of
Hollywood stars and starlets, mobsters and politicians.
According to Tony, Frank Sinatra had a series of tunnels and secret entrances built so that his VIP guests could arrive and depart unnoticed by the general audience.
Ghosts From The Past
Marylin Monroe was a frequent guest at the CalNeva, and Mr. Sinatra
reserved a special, private cabin for her use alone.
One of the secret tunnels Frank Sinatra had built at the CalNeva. Those
walls witnessed JFK and Marylin Monroe arriving together as private
guests of Sinatra.
