RECIPES FROM THE RETRO HOUSEWIFE

SALAD

WILTED LETTUCE, American

Ingredients
  • 1 small head lettuce, or equivalent of leaf lettuce
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tbsp, sugar
  • 1 small onion
  • 1/3 cup white cider vinegar, or sweet pickle vinegar
  • 2 slices bacon or hot fat
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • Hard-cooked egg
Preparation Instructions

Chop lettuce and onion. Cut bacon into small pieces and brown slowly. Add vinegar to bacon and pour over lettuce. Garnish with slices of hard-cooked egg.
